Fruit of the Fjords

A Nordic berry nurseryFruit of the Fjords

Hardy berry plants with a story, grown and labelled by a network of family gardens.

Our story

A nursery made of many gardens

Fruit of the Fjords isn't one big property. It's a network of family gardens we call nodes, each growing what suits its soil, its climate and the people tending it. One garden specializes in seaberries, another in currants or lingonberries.

Small on their own, together they grow a variety no single nursery could match. Every garden starts with a mother crop and multiplies it by cuttings, seeds and suckers, so the nursery grows the way a forest does.

We're rooted in the Scandinavian habits of self-reliance and making do, and in the Christian calling to stewardship and generosity. We're growing more than plants here. We're building something our families can hand down.

Every plant, known

A name and a number on every stem

Seaberry cultivars look alike for years, and a seedling grown from a 'Mary' berry isn't a 'Mary' at all. So every plant we sell carries its own permanent serial number from the day its stem can hold a label. The number never changes and is never reused.

When your plant arrives you'll know exactly what it is, which garden raised it, and how it was grown.

  • HR species: Hippophae rhamnoides, seaberry
  • MAR cultivar: 'Mary'
  • BF the family garden it came from
  • C grown from a cutting, so true to its parent
  • 2027-0001 the year it was propagated, and its own number

Grow with us

Start a garden node

A few plants in the backyard today can become hundreds of seedlings in a couple of years. Nodes choose what they grow, start small, and can pause or stop at any time. The plants are always yours.

Each node earns from the plants it ships, and we keep the books open to every node leader.

The mission isn't getting rich. It's the common good: sharing cuttings, bringing fruit to friends, and opening doors.
